The London School of English was founded in 1912, which makes us the longest-established Accredited English language school in the world.
When we started, the world was a very different place. Not many people travelled to learn other languages. A lot of the work was individual tuition. We also taught other languages. But even then our aim was to offer a personal service. Indeed, our founder started the school because he felt that the teaching style in the school in which he had been working - the only other language school in London - was mechanical and unimaginative. The London School of English was created to put people first.

Discover British heritage
London has a rich and varied history that have helped form the unique city that we know today. There is so much to explore, from the wealth of many art galleries and museums to magnificent architecture. We carefully plan the social programme to make sure that you experience as much of these as possible during your stay.
London is often called the culture capital of the world and has been shaped over the years by the great number of different cultures that call the city their home. The city has some of the world’s best theatres and museums. Many people are also surprised to learn that London is the greenest major city in Europe thanks to its large parks, gardens and woodland. Our centre is located in zone 2, west London, providing the ideal place to relax and focus on your English, while being close to all that London has to offer.
Throughout our history we have always wanted to offer a top-quality, personal service. The school now is very different to what it was in 1912, but its core aim is still to offer the best possible service, treating people as human and different, with their own needs and priorities.
There are many ways to learn English. We believe that the best way to develop your knowledge and understanding of the language is to surround yourself with the language and with the culture surrounding it. England is the birthplace of the English language, and you will experience interesting and useful national and corporate culture that will give you a deeper understanding of the language. Our social programme makes the most of London, giving you the opportunity to continue practising your English outside the classroom and really immerse yourself in the local culture.
Beyond British heritage
A true cultural experience includes much more than just the rich history of London. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local way of life; the rich food culture, lively street markets, variety of theatre performances and much more. All of this will provide you with a greater understanding of our culture which will help your language learning.
