The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont, based on the 1982 Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. It tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. The entire story is all about hope, freedom, and institutionalization.

《刺激1995》講述銀行家安迪（提姆羅賓斯飾）因被誣控殺妻和她情夫而被判無期徒刑。初入監獄的安迪過了一段被欺凌的非人生活，但是充滿鬥志和智慧的他咬牙生存了下來，並認識了一位從事黑市交易的囚犯瑞德（摩根費里曼飾）。和瑞德成為摯友後的安迪生活開始產生轉機，他運用自己的財經知識在監獄裡獲得重視，甚至忍氣吞聲地幫典獄長洗錢，面對獄中滿佈的腐敗與邪惡，克服恐懼的他學會如何面對黑暗，並且藉由在獄中的人脈和友誼的扶持，擬出了飛天遁地的逃獄方法。
In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is convicted of a double murder, even though he stubbornly proclaims his innocence. He's sentenced to a life term at the Shawshank State Prison in Maine, where another lifer, Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy: a corrupt warden (Bob Gunton), sadistic guards led by Capt. Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown), and inmates who are little better than animals, willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance. But Andy does not crack: he has the hope of the truly innocent, which (together with his smarts) allow him to prevail behind bars. He uses his banking skills to win favor with the warden and the guards, doing the books for Norton's illegal business schemes and keeping an eye on the investments of most of the prison staff. In exchange, he is able to improve the prison library and bring some dignity and respect back to many of the inmates, including Red. Based on a story by Stephen King, The Shawshank Redemption was the directorial debut of screenwriter Frank Darabont.

影片中涵蓋全片的主題是「希望」，海報宣傳語更是直接標以「恐懼能牢牢束縛你，希望卻能讓你鬆綁」（Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.）。片中也有句台詞：希望是個美好的東西。
希望與自由是別人給不了你的，必須要從心底深處創造的！
而主角安迪所給予瑞德即是：希望！
一個老舊的黑鐵盒，不僅象徵的是一段難能可貴的友情，更是『希望』。因為這個希望，使瑞德出獄後並沒有像Brooks選擇一了終身，是一份真摯的友情救贖了瑞德 ; 是一份大大的希望救贖了瑞德原先渺小的渴望。
每個人也是為希望而活，也是時時追尋著希望。在獄中的主角們如同牢籠中的小鳥望向世界廣闊的樣貌，然而安迪所代表的不僅是希望的象徵，更是傳遞自由是多麽的可貴，即使明知不行，明知危險，也不在乎那丁點的苦頭！
屋頂上喝著爭取來的啤酒，貫穿整個監獄的音樂聲 (安迪因此被發關禁閉一星期)，這至最終安迪所披上的笑容，那全是因為他懷著希望！
這部片不僅對其中的角色所帶來希望，在現實生活中更有許多觀眾至今都會寫信給演員及導演，闡述這部片對他們的重要性，不論多低潮，只要看了這部片就足以讓他們重燃對生命的希望。
這部片闡述了體制化的生成，而我們又何嘗不是生長在體制當中，但我們真因為被制約而放棄了曾經追求的自由嗎？
